Melocchi Miniature Painting
Portrait, which dates from the late 19th to early 20th century, measures just a tad over 3.5" in diameter overall. Brass and glass frame. Work is signed "E Melocchi" in the painting.
Melocchi is well known for his folksy, slightly altered versions of Old Master paintings (Da Vinci was a common subject), and this is a fine example of such a work, being based on the famous portrait of Borghese by Salomone Guillame Counis.
